4 Bizarre Air Con Facts You Need To Know

Tuesday, 15 February 2022 by

Air conditioners are a staple in many homes and businesses during the summer months. If you’re like most people, you probably use air conditioners during the summer to keep yourself cool. But how much do you really know about them? In this blog post, we will discuss some bizarre and random facts about air conditioners that you need to know!

1: Movie Theatres Used to Use The Most Air Con

Back in the early 1900’s when air-con was first invented, not many people actually knew what it was or could even afford it. Many people during summer would always sweat and become hot, so many movie theatres across the country decided to invest in air con in order to attract people to a cool indoor environment where they would be entertained. This investment did end up paying off, as movie theatres during this era took off and many people used the theatres as a way to relax their mind and body.

2: Air Con Has Been One of The Prime Tools for Today’s Modern Medicine.

Yes, seriously this is true. But when you stop and think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense and isn’t that crazy. Many new formulas and medicines are created in a lab that needs to be temperature specific for correct experimentation. This includes temperature specific tools and equipment that has changed the way we see and use medicine in our daily lives, and if it wasn’t for air-con to cool or heat the rooms to specific temperatures, all the experiments and breakthrough wouldn’t be possible.

3: Air Con Was Not Made For Comfort

The reason that Air Con was developed was not actually for comfort, but rather to preserve profits and stock. The original man who came up with the idea was Willis Carrier, who thought of the idea in order to prevent ink from running dry in his factory during the summertime. Because of this thought, he developed the first commercial and factory-wide air con! Because of this, other businesses started to use the application of air-con for commercial and business use, until it eventually became what it is widely used for today; comfort.

4: The First Personal Air Con Was… Big

The first practical application of personal home air con was established in 1914. It was installed in a Minneapolis mansion and the actual size of the air-con vent was approximately seven feet high, 20 feet long and nearly six feet wide. The ironic part of is that the air con was reported never used, as no one actually ever lived in the house. However, 17 years later in 1931, the first apartment air-con vent was installed around America; they were positioned on the side of the apartment windows, which has been a stable of air-con vents throughout the world ever since. Despite air-con being quite affordable today, these small air-con vents back in the ’30s were only obtainable for the rich and wealthy, as one air-con vent was recorded to cost from $10,000 to $50,000, which is roughly equivalent to $100,000 to $500,000 today!

When Should You Replace or Repair Your Air Con

Thursday, 20 January 2022 by
Air Con

You can expect your air-con to last between seven and fifteen years, depending on the model. If you need an aircon unit for long-term cooling in a home with high humidity levels or where there will be many people using it throughout the summer months, then consider selecting one that has capabilities like split system units – which operate more efficiently by individually controlling each room’s temperature instead of shipping coolant through pipes underground as traditional systems do.

Air Con Is Too Old

The life expectancy of air-con is between 15 and 20 years, but as with all things in this world, it’s not always easy to tell when they’re going out. If you start noticing your unit isn’t cooling well or seems inefficient at times, then there may be some serious problems ahead.
A lot can go wrong with these air conditioners – from dirty filters that don’t allow enough airflow through them, so heat doesn’t escape away from key areas properly, breaks due to excessive wear-and-tear caused by weather conditions like extreme cold winters where ice forms on windowsills and so on.

Frequent Break Downs

Get your aircon tune-ups this summer so you don’t have to worry about breakdowns! A qualified technician will be able to spot any issues before they become major problems. Plus, getting regular maintenance on air con is key for avoiding costly repairs during peak seasons like these hot ones we’re having right now ̶ just try not turning up the thermostat too high because then you’ll know what will happen.

If your air con seem to have multiple breakdowns despite having it maintained regularly, it is best to start preparing in buying a new one. The reason behind this is because frequent breakdowns means frequent repairs, which can be costly in the long run. Instead of spending your money on repairs too

If your aircon seems to have multiple breakdowns despite having it maintained regularly, it is best to start preparing in buying a new one. The reason behind this is that frequent breakdowns mean frequent repairs, which can be costly in the long run. Instead of spending your money on repairs too often, especially if the warranty has already expired, it would be best to purchase a new air conditioner as it will help you save in the long run.

Increased Energy Bills

Unless you make major changes to your home’s energy use, like switching from electric blankets for winter warmth and turning off electronics when not in use; it is likely that the monthly bill will stay about the same each month. However, if there has been an increase even though habits don’t seem any different then consider looking into buying a new air-con system.

The older your air con, the more energy it uses to keep you cool. That’s because as time goes on and its efficiency decreases so do those high electric bills.

Malfunctioning air conditioners often lead not only higher utility costs but also issues with other appliances like heating units or furnaces which may result from poor performance due to reduced airflow caused by clogged discharge vents located near where the filtering system takes place—this leads us back full circle since these problems could be related.

The Beautiful Science Behind Air Con

Monday, 13 December 2021 by
Air Con Filter

Air con comes in different shapes and sizes, but they are all operating for the same job; removing humidity and heat from the indoor air by providing cold air inside the home or any enclosed space. It returns the cooled air to your indoor space and will transfer all the unwanted humidity and heat outside.

HVAC

A standard air con uses a specific chemical known as a refrigerant and has three main components, which are the evaporator coil, condenser coil, and compressor. All these components work together to quickly convert the gas to liquid and then back again. The compressor will raise the temperature and pressure of the refrigerant gas while sending it to the condenser coil, which will be converted to liquid.

The refrigerant will travel back indoors and will enter the evaporator coil. The liquid will then evaporate, thus cooling the indoor coil. The fan will blow indoor air across the cold evaporator coil, wherein the heat inside the home will be absorbed into the refrigerant. The air will be circulated throughout the area while the heated evaporated gas is sent to the compressor outside. This cycle will continue until the home reaches the needed temperature.

Air Con Components

As mentioned above, there are different components of an air conditioner. These components are responsible for how the air con works; here is a more detailed description of each of the components.

Evaporator

The warm air that comes from inside your home is drawn and passed through the valve, which will regulate the air flow. It will then blow over the evaporator coil, which will absorb the heat from the air. While the refrigerant inside the coils absorbs the heat, it will change back into gas and move towards the air con’s compressor.

Compressor

An air conditioning system’s compressor acts as the pump, which will decrease the gas’ volume while also raining the temperature and pressure for the process of condensing.

Condenser

The heat collected will be taken by the air con condenser from the inside of your home using the refrigerant but in vapor form. It will then be pumped outside, where the outside air will absorb the heat and change the state from a gas back to liquid.

Once the heat is moved outdoors, the cold refrigerant will travel back indoors to the air conditioner’s evaporator to repeat the cycle.

Health Benefits of Using Air Con

Split Type Air Con

Removes Allergens and Particles

Air cons have a filter that can help remove allergens and particles, including dust and pollen, preventing them from circulating through the air. The filter will help clean the air that you and your family will breathe inside your home.

Reduces Risk of Heat Stroke

The risk of heatstroke is high as the temperature increases. With a good working air conditioning system in place, the risk of heatstroke and other illnesses that are heat-related are also reduced.

Quality Sleep

Regulated temperatures, especially during the night, will help your quality of sleep. Keeping your home’s bedrooms cool will make you and your family comfortable while sleeping. You will have a well-rested day ahead of you.

Installing a Split System Air-Conditioning

Tuesday, 16 November 2021 by
A man installing a split type system air conditioning

Split system airconditioning units are ideal for apartments, condos, and multiple-unit dwellings that cannot afford central air conditioning. A split system air conditioner heats and cools the room simultaneously with the help of two separate and distinct heating and cooling units. This saves money as well as precious space. Since they do not require extensive ductwork to complete the job, they are a much more convenient option as well. Since no central ductwork is needed, there is no major installation work to complete.

A man installing a split type system air conditioning

Split system airconditioning systems require an electric connection to the room’s thermostat and a separate power connection to the unit itself. Most models come with built-in automatic temperature adjustment buttons that work independently. They also have built-in dehumidifiers that mechanically draw moisture from the air to keep the rooms comfortable. The moisture is removed from the air by high-tech blowers that act as condensation neutralizers.

There are two basic types of split-system airconditioning systems: manual and auto-increment. With the manual system, you need to control the opening and closing of the blower ducts manually. If you want to increase the coolness in the room, you open the ducts and allow the warm air to enter the room through the lower vents while letting the cool air through the upper vents. On the other hand, you close the vents but open the upper vents when you want to add humidity to the air. The result is the same: the warm air enters the room, and the cool air is let out through the upper vents.

Split system air conditioning units come with a thermostat usually controlled by a central air conditioning system. However, some newer air conditioning units come with a ductless thermostat that controls the thermostat and also allows for remote control of the compressor’s operation. The advantage of ductless thermostats is that it offers a great deal more flexibility. For instance, you can adjust the air temperature inside your house by adjusting the air temperature in your air conditioning unit.

The other main advantage of this air conditioning system is that it uses a separate refrigerant to provide both cooling and heating. The evaporator in a split system air conditioner has three parts: a heat-water fluid, an evaporator, and a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger separates the heat energy produced by the heating process from the cold water supply. An evaporator extracts the heat from the incoming air and transfers it to the heat exchange fluid. The cooled water is then released into the indoor unit.

Installing this type of system in your home will provide many benefits for you and your family. To learn more about the benefits, as well as the technical details, it would be a good idea to speak with someone at your local HVAC contractor. There are several different types of split systems available, but the kind that is best for you depends on your needs, your preferences, and the location of your residence. If you are considering installing one of these units, it would be a good idea to talk with your contractor about the possibility of installing a split systems air conditioning system.

Tips For Ensuring Your Air Con is Working Properly

Monday, 18 October 2021 by

When summer is in full swing, you’ll want to be sure your air conditioning is working at its peak. One of the most frustrating things that can happen is if it’s a boiling hot day and you want to relax inside but the AC is not working. That’s why even if you have a newer AC, it’s always a good idea to make sure everything is running as smoothly as possible. Here are some simple tips for making sure your air conditioner is performing as it should:

Regular Checkup

Check the filters every month or so. Old filters can cause your system to overheat and reduce its efficiency. That’s why by consistently check up on the filters of your AC unit, you can ensure that the AC will continue to work properly. You’ll want to check primarily for any dust that may have accumulated inside the vents to ensure the aircon is operating at maximum capacity, especially dust that may have accumulated on the unit over the cold winter months. While you’re checking behind the filter as well, it’s worth checking to see if there is any ice build-up. Ice build-up with AC units is quite common and occurs from overuse of the AC machine which can reduce the overall performance and energy efficiency of your unit. To check, simply open the filters of your unit and look for an ice build-up.

Find out what type of refrigerant your AC uses and replace it if necessary

Not all refrigerants are compatible with all kinds of indoor units. For instance, some refrigerants will damage the compressor that you use for your air conditioner, especially if it’s an old unit. So if you’re looking to upgrade, you’ll need to make sure that the new compressor is compatible with the type of refrigerant your AC currently utilizes.

Always keep the outside unit clear from debris that could limit airflow or clog up the fins on the coils

You’ll also need to make sure that the exterior unit is clear of any debris that could limit airflow or clog up the fins on the coils. You should also check to make sure that nothing has collected near or underneath the outdoor unit. This is obviously to make sure that the aircon is performing at an optimal performance level and that it’s transferring the cold air as effectively as it can, but it’s also for health reasons as well. Health conditions vary from person to person like allergies or asthma, so when it comes to sharing the same environment, make sure it’s a safe and healthy space for all.
